“Early Masterworks”

White Cube

New York, 1002 Madison Avenue

With a profound fascination for biological science and the natural world, working predominantly in metal, Richard Hunt’s hybrid sculptures are characterised by dualities – that of the natural and the industrial, the surreal and the abstract, the geometric and the organic.

This show will bring together sculptures from the artist's early career, with a focus on his 1971 solo exhibition at MoMA, New York, which was, at the time, the first retrospective for an African American sculptor at the museum.

Richard Hunt passed away on 16 December 2023. A celebration of his life and art will also take place later this year. Details to be announced
